SOHO COFFEE CO. helps Toby walk
During May of this year, SOHO COFFEE CO. in Cribbs Causeway and Cabot Circus ran a collection, for a young Bristol boy named Toby Cox.
Five year old Toby was born with a rare form of Cerebral Palsy – spastic diplegia, a condition that affects his whole body but mainly his legs. The condition affects Toby’s ability to run, jump, skip and play; activities that most five year olds would take for granted. Toby can walk with help and support but he has craved independence and the ability to do this for himself.
Toby’s family discovered that a procedure called SDR could be the solution for his disease. SDR is a type of surgery only available in America that involves cutting nerve fibres between Toby’s muscles and spinal cords. Some might say a miracle procedure; however miracles often come at a cost.
Having undergone this operation very recently, Toby is now back in the UK and the hard work really begins, as rehabilitation will be a lengthy process. SOHO Coffee Co is delighted that its fundraising has made a contribution to the cost of physiotherapy to help Toby on his journey to recovery. This month, Toby's family reached their £36,000 target and we would like to take this opportunity to wish Toby and his family every success in their journey ahead.
